I am a newbie looking for a new hobby and there is a lot of reading on people who have build dredges, slucie boxes etc etc etc ... I probably get as much enjoyment out of building stuff as I do using it I know that mite be strange. I have to admit at first I wanted to use my honda 3" semitrash pump that does 270gpm, but all the reading I have done everyone pretty much agrees these type pumps ...

Finally a clean up sluice, that is not a plastic gutter! Process more material in less time than you can with a gold pan! We have tried blue bowls, and long toms, ran our material through our sluices over and over again, even the trusty spiral wheel, all this ever seemed to do was give us denser material to pan thru again.all time wasting!!!
Important note: Since writing this article, over the period of a year, the State of California has adopted new regulations which no longer allow any type of vacuum or suction to excavate material off the bottom of a waterway. Therefore, the underwater suction gravel transfer systems outlined here will no longer be allowed until we overcome the suction dredge moratorium.
